Recently, Begins Acoustic Sdn Bhd introduced the Japanese brand TiGLON in KL, which offers various cables, racks, turntable mats, and more. Being a Japanese what to expect is the build quality. Although just take this USB for example can look pretty simple and even the box is good classic box but the cable when you hold it will know how refine the outer skin is. One thing I like about this cable is very light weight. Most so called high end cables are very hefty. The thing about heavy cables is the connector or the port is connected can be damage over time with the cable sagging or pulling down on its weight. Of course the simple work around is to have some cable support to help holding the cable. Anyway, that makes things a little more complicated just with another accessory. So light weight cable is definitely a plus for me.
The cable has a two-piece structure, with signal and power completely separated, and uses OCC (monocrystalline) silver wire for the signal line and OCC (monocrystalline) copper wire for the power line. Technically speaking it avoid interference. Other than that, the outer shield is pretty standard. As for the USB itself is 2.0, again pretty standard. For digital music playback is more than enough. For myself, the cable is connected between the DAC and Innous Pulse. That pretty much covers for Hi-Res streaming and for local playback up to 512DSD.
For my home listening is direct playback from a hard disk with my ripped CD into wav format and some DSD. My trial version of Tidal has ended so can’t try that out. First song, I have listen to is “When you believe” from the movie “Prince of Egypt”. This version of the song is performed by Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston. This version of the songs with 2 renounce female singers, the vocal can be a bit busy especially on the higher note. With the Tiglon cable the separation is well define. The higher end freq is just immaculate. The beginning of the song from quiet to the start of it brings out the vocal nicely.
Next moving on my ever favourite of Eagles “Hotel California”. For this song, my personal liking is the album of “Hell Freezes Over”. The first few minutes of guitar play and music gives all kind of flavour to the instruments. The cable present well with articulate of the guitars and drum beats. As this is live version it naturally is a bit noisy but very well controlled. I will describe the cable as quite mellow. For rock songs, is not too boomy.
Finally, is going to be some unconventional concert music, Two Steps from Hell. The album “Skyworld”. The group came to fame for some movies background music. Is unconventional as the music is a mix of electronic music and traditional orchestra. The usual music is all kind of mix. On skyworld especially the background music is not easy to hear it clearly as the ochestra music booming away. The mellow character of this USB works like a charm in giving the music more calming control. More over the background music is well presented. I guess a mellow cable has its advantage.
I think overall the cable has good build quality. In the audio department is an all kind of music suitable cable which is good as most will listen to mix genre of musics. It will easily match in most setup. Is pretty well balance. Anyone looking for USB cable , this is a good choice.
